Kids & Technology VIDEO

*This event recording is from our live, virtual class on 7.13.26, Kids & Technology: Navigating Digital Childhood & Raising Connected, Grounded Humans. This class was recorded as a resource for parents.

Please reach out directly to your pediatrician for any specific questions or concerns about your child.

Description of class:

Hey parents, let’s be honest! Navigating the digital world with our kids can feel completely overwhelming. From the endless scroll of social media and the rabbit holes of YouTube to the brand-new frontier of AI tools helping them write their essays, the tech landscape is shifting faster than we can keep up.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “How much screen time is too much?” or “Is this app changing how my child’s brain works?”—you are definitely not alone.

We invite you to take a deep breath and join us for a special, supportive online workshop designed just for you. This isn’t about judging or demanding a total tech ban; it's about giving you the real, practical tools you need to find a healthy balance for your family.

Meet Your Guides

We are bringing together two crucial perspectives to look at the whole child:

  • The Developmental & Behavioral Lens: Led by a Erin Merli, CPNP-PC, PMHS from Annapolis Pediatrics, we'll look at the intersection of physical health and habit formation. You'll learn how tech impacts your child's sleep, brain development, and daily behaviors.
  • The Emotional & Mental Lens: Led by a Christa E. Welch, LCSW-C from Betty Center, we’ll explore the emotional side of tech—dealing with social comparison, digital anxiety, and how to protect your child’s mental well-being.

What We’ll Explore Together

Instead of a rigid lecture, this is an interactive space where we’ll unpack the modern media mix together:

  • The Video Cycle: Managing the addictive pull of YouTube, short-form video, and streaming.
  • The Social Landscape: Helping kids navigate peer pressure, group chats, and social media platforms safely.
  • The New Frontier: Understanding how AI (Artificial Intelligence) is shaping how our kids learn, create, and interact.
  • Healthy Boundaries: How to set boundaries that actually stick—without the nightly screaming match.
